Pleating

In this session, we did a workshop about hand pleating. This are the few hand paper pleating that I found very interesting and innovative.

This image above is a Alphabet paper pleats, this 3d work makes each letter alive. It show a lot of depth and volume. This works are by Losiento called typeface.

Another paper folding which is more 2d. This works are by Tim Fishlock called Alphabet Relief.

This pleating works are done by Elizabeth Delfs, her pleating work is very modern and individual.

I started this pleating work by doing the basic and simple hand paper pleating which are box pleats and normal pleating.

I then made another one so that I can sandwich a calico fabric and iron it to make the pleating. This paper I used are hard cartridge paper, so that it can hold the fabric well.

This is box pleating which is 3cm to 2 cm. This pleats has more 3d effect.

Another pleating work I tried is knife pleating which is 16cm by 16cm by 2cm lines. First I carefully measured 2cm straight lines and did another diagonal lines to make the box.

Then I folded it horizontally to ease the folding.

And then I started at the bottom to pleat it and work my way up. I found this folding very hard because it creases the paper.

I made another one of these pleats however with a bigger size. I think this will hold more on fabric and it will be easier to fold.
